A Bit About Who We Are

History of the Club

There is evidence of hockey in the Stone area in the early 20th century, but a formal club was constituted in 1922. In

1958, the club was forced to leave the old ground at Aston. When construction of the new A34 dual carriageway forced the club to look for a new site, fate happily took control in the person of Mr Shardlow, an Aston Farmer, who allowed the club to lease his 7 acre field. When in 1964, the land adjoining Mr Shardlow's field came up for sale, the club's committee swiftly grasped the opportunity and bought 7 acres of land, creating a permanent home. This home grew further to 10 acres, which now includes a clubhouse, carpark, synthetic hockey pitch, training pitch, and Rugby match pitch.

Since its inception in 1990, Stone Rugby club has maintained its strong ties with the founders of the club, with many of the original member still being actively involved. The club was set up for residents of Stone, who enjoyed playing rugby, to partake in their sport without having to travel to other areas. A season of friendly matches was originally organized for Sundays, played on Alleynes Sports field. Due to popularity this was then moved to Saturday matches from September 1991at Bibbies Sports Club. The club then moved to its current home alongside Stone Hockey Club at Enson Lane in 2010.

The joint history of the club is in its infancy, with the aim of formal amalgamation by May 2018.

We are actively fundraising for a new clubhouse at our Enson Lane home. The new clubhouse will include a community room, bar, kitchen, three lots of changing rooms, as well as officials changing rooms. This bright and modern building will be a physical manifestation of the bright and prosperous future ahead of us.

We would love you to be a part of our journey. We will have multiple fundraising events, so please listen out for more information, and feel free to contact us if you would like to know more.
